What is floating?

Why float?

The sensation of floating is different from anything you've ever felt before.

You'll float without effort, in water saturated with 1000 lbs of Epsom salt, heated to skin temperature. Gravity and tension disappear.

Try it for the novelty, and you'll come back for the relaxation.

Thanks to the float environment which reduces sensory input, the mind can enter a state of profound relaxation, which stays with you even after your float session.

Get into the habit of entering this deep state of relaxation on a regular basis through floating, and it will change your life.

Professional athletes use float therapy to improve their focus and physical recuperation, and floating is being studied as a non-drug treatment for anxiety disorders.

How does it work?

Skin-temperature water that's super-saturated with Epsom salt completely supports your body without any pressure points, allowing pain and tension to melt away.

You can leave the float pod open or close it to minimize exterior light and sound.

Reducing sensory input reduces the work that your brain has to do, allowing you to enter a prolonged theta state (that point between waking and sleeping) which has an incredibly restorative effect.

Floating is more than just a pleasant experience. It is a holistic therapy that given its totally unique environment

  • offers pain relief from back pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, & pregnancy

  • has a positive impact on the immune system,

  • can help treat anxiety, stress, PTSD, sleep disorders, & depression.

While you'll get relief from a single float session, lasting physiological changes come from regular sessions. For this reason, we offer monthly memberships & targeted programs to help you:

what to know for your appointment

You don't have to bring anything, not even a bathing suit. It's better to float with nothing on. For your comfort, each float pod has its own private suite complete with shower.

We provide everything you need - towels, sandals,  bathrobe, shampoo, conditioner and soap, earplugs and even soft contact lens solution. There is a hairdryer in the dressing room.

We have 2 large, luxury float pods - each in its own suite - and you decide how you want to float. With the lid up or down, interior lights on or off, and even the option to listen to music during your session or not.

  • Avoid shaving in the hours before your session; otherwise the skin will sting for a few minutes.

  • Avoid caffiene and heave meals before floating because it can interfere with your ability to relax

  • If you color or dye your hair, you must wait to float until there is no residual color - because the color can run, compromising the quality of our water and ruining your hair

Frequently asked questions

Which session length should I choose?

We offer sessions of 45 and 75 minutes in length. We recommend the 45 minute for new floaters. A 75 minute session is ideal for people who are familiar with floating or meditation and want to lengthen their time spent in theta state.

What will it be like for me?

We don't know what it will be like for you since it is such an individual experience, and even floating regularly, each float will be different. The most common reports are profound peace and relaxation, pain relief, and/or space for concentration & creativity.

Do I need to prepare myself for floating?

The things you should know are:

  • If you shave 2 or 3 hours before using the tank, the shaved skin will sting for a few minutes. If you can postpone your shaving, you will probably be more comfortable.
  • If you wear contact lenses, it would be a problem if any salt water got into your eyes. If you remove your contacts you don't have to be concerned about it.
  • If you have caffeine before you float, it may interfere with your ability to relax.
  • If you dye your hair or use artificial tanners, you must wait a minimum of 3 days - and until all residual color or tint is gone - before floating. Otherwise the color could leach, compromising our water quality and your dye or tan.
  • It's recommended to eat something light before floating so you're neither too hungry nor too full

Will I float? I can't float anywhere.

Yes. It is impossible not to float in the pod. Eight hundred pounds of salt dissolved in the water make the solution so much denser than your body that your body is pushed to the surface like a cork. Your face is out of the solution and your ears are underwater.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

We will provide everything you need for your float. You will be showering both before and after your float. We provide towels, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. We also provide a robe and slippers. We provide earplugs and have a contact lens case and soft lens solution available. We have a hair dryer in our powder room. You should bring a hairbrush or comb if you need one, and any specific hair or skin products you like to use after bathing.

Do I wear anything in the tank?

Since it is a private experience, most people don't wear anything. Anything you wear will press against your body, becoming a distraction. In this regard imagine it as similar to getting into your bathtub.

Is anyone not supposed to float?

We don't recommend floating for epileptics whose epilepsy is not under medical control; for people under the influence of alcohol, drugs, those with infectious diseases, open skin wounds, or those with suicidal tendencies. If you dye your hair or use artificial tanners, you must wait a minimum of 3 days before floating (or until all residual color is gone). Otherwise there is a risk that the color will leach, compromising our water quality and your hair color or tan.

Can pregnant women float?

Yes. The reports received from pregnant women have been enthusiastic. As their bodies get heavier, floating is a great relief from the pull of gravity. Floating has given many women a welcome rest, and we even offer a pregnancy self care package which incorporates floating.

Can I float if I'm menstruating?

Yes, using a tampon or a cup, just like you would at a pool.

What if I'm claustrophobic?

People who say that they are afraid to float because they are claustrophobic probably assume that they will be confined to an enclosed space. However, you can use the pod with the door open if you wish. You are in control of the situation and can get in and out when ever you want. You should use it in the way it's comfortable for you.
